IGP:PublisherDAMS CHALLENGES SaaS MODELS

Semi-SaaS for Publishers; All the Benefits of SaaS But With Full Control
An Affordable Model for SME and Publishers; Multiple Deployment Options

While larger publishers may have internal Document Management Systems for their access and business continuity strategies, or use SaaS vendors for their digital distribution, this only addresses a "yesterday" problem. The challenge today is to get content to market faster, repurpose, redistribute and remonitise.

The content management landscape is rapidly changing for Publishers, especially for academic and educational Publishers who need to be ready for new exciting but complex content ownership and business models.

Publishers need to keep their content under control, and need sustainable, affordable management and distribution solutions. Infogrid Pacific CEO Richard Pipe said, "Shipping production files and eBook formats to various aggregators, printers and other organizations is a part of the publisher content management continuum, but this still leaves a lot of important documents such as manuscripts, contracts, production masters, production variants, commissioned artwork and other critical assets out of the Asset Management mix. IGP:PublisherDAMS delivers content and asset management strategies for the entire business of publishing." He added, "With the right product and services support model, it is possible to have both the automation benefits of a SaaS model, and the confidence of an ownership model, all with a lower total cost of ownership."

IGP:PublisherDAMS has been licensed so SME Publishers can have the control inherent in software licenses, with the option of a DAMS appliance in-house, or hosted with remote supported services.

IGP:PublisherDAMS is built on the powerful IGP:ECMS framework and inherits all the benefits that brings. Underpining the storage and archival strategy is IGP:Repository 2, which supports records, documents, images and custom collections. The policy driven nature of the storage framework eliminates disaster-recovery and backup costs. Infogrid Pacific CTO Deepak Chandran observed, "SME's find it difficult to maintain consistency in backups. IGP:Repository 2 can be configured to replicate itself continuously to replicated storage locations anywhere around the globe, and maintain the replicas in syncronization. It can also use Online storage services such as Amazon S3 for very cost effective and reliable tapeless disaster recovery strategies."

CentralBooks Vice President Juan Carlos Sibal said, "Specialty and smaller Publishers like CentralBooks have the same imperatives to preserve, reuse and extend the value of their content as larger Publishers, but we don't have the budgets. And SaaS models don't give us the control we need to distribute our legal collections to targeted learning institutions and specialty content users."

CentralBooks have deployed IGP:PublisherDAMS in conjunction with IGP:Bookstore with Online subscription and distribution for their premier content, Supreme Court Reports Annotated.

Because of the IGP:ECMS heritage, IGP:PublisherDAMS includes features for project and team work as well as purely Digital Asset Management. "The product is really two-in-one" said Infogrid Pacific Marketing Director Andrew Crisp, "It's a fully functional Document Management system with collaboration features for managing projects, including the editorial stages if clients want to use them. The DAMS maintains the valuable fixed digital assets with full life-cycle automation meeting or exceeding International record keeping standards."

IGP:PublisherDAMS has optional extension modules, commerce (such as an eBookstore), a subscription content site, and eCompile options to provide publishers with different ePublishing models. It can also be integrated with IGP:ACOM, the Advanced Content Object Management System.

IGP:PublisherDAMS is available from Infogrid Pacific and selected regional SI and VAR partners around the world.
