The XML editing and Content Block tools have been updated to make it easy for anyone to define their own custom content requirements. 

Collaboration Publishing

Until IGP:FLIP, collaborative editing was an MS-Word (or OpenOffice) document with Track Changes turned on. Files moved between project team members and only one person could edit at a time. Worse still, the files may be PDF's which then have to have notes and annotations attached. When that is all finished, the manuscript goes to typesetting and corrections and changes happen all over again.

The powerful triple template production model means authoring, editing, design changes and flow editing (our equivalent of typesetting) for print and online/eBooks can all be carried out virtually simultaneously.  

The output state of the book can be seen instantly in any of the output formats, and at any time during the editing process.

New Editing Paradigms

Editing is WYSIWYM - What You See Is What You Mean. This is a necessary paradigm shift for multi-format editing where WYSIWIG presents just one expression of the work.

For example, you are authoring or editing the text in a Notebox. In the print edition it will be flowed to the top of the page, in the Online & eBook edition it will maintain its position in the text.

It won't look like the print Notebox,  but it will look like a Notebox, and you will be able to focus on the content, not the presentation. You can easily edit text to fit pre-defined boxes with very few iterations.

For Editors - Instant changes, Inline Notes, Infinite Revision Tree

The effect of every edit is instantly viewable. The edit mode allows comments to be inserted that will not appear in the output formats, but is always there for the team to view.

IGP:Reader/Writer maintains any number of edits or revisions. Revisions can all be compared with changes to the current active version, any previous revision can be promoted to active, and nothing is lost. When editing, flow and design are complete, the revision tree can be flattened. 

For Designers - Anytime Stylesheet updates

Because document layout and styling is done from Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), it can be interactively updated at any time without interrupting ongoing editing processes.

For Flow Editors - in built interactive flow control

Flow Editing - that's the equivalent of typesetting. Because templates are predefined, but content isn't, it has to be controlled for the final rendering. Instead of moving to an external typesetting application, advanced flow modification can be carried out by anyone from the editing interface.

Expect all the usual controls.

  • Page margins, galley and running headers and footers;
  • Font faces, size and leading with character and word spacing at the document and chapter level, plus of course widow and orphan processing; 
  • Generated content such as Contents, figure lists plus chapter, section and figure automated numbering;
  • Metadata generated title pages, but fully customizable of course;
  • Precise control over floating elements such as figures, tables, noteboxes, icon paragraphs and sidebars.
