AZARDI, ePub3, Accessibility

I was thrilled yesterday to locate the NVDA accessibility reader and to find that it works with AZARDI Desktop for Windows. The reason we put a lot of priority on SMIL features and demos was to support accessibility. the easy to configure AZARDI interface was designed with accessibility as a very important feature.

The reason we put a lot of priority on SMIL features and demos was to support accessibility. the easy to configure AZARDI interface was designed with accessibility as a very important feature.

We had been looking for a Text to Speech solution to integrate with AZARDI. Everything we could find was commercial with punitive consumer pricing; we didn't even dare ask about development licenses.

Yesterday I was pointed in the right direction by the good folks at Georgia Tech. AMACs (Alternative Media Access Center).

If you need to read ePub2 or ePub3 with accessibility Text to Speech the NVDA project from Australia is an amazing option. NVDA is an acronym for NonVisual Desktop Access.

If you don't know about NVDA you can download (and DONATE) here.

The NVDA is a very fine find and launch pad in our quest to make AZARDI the best accessibility reader available. If any accessibility users are using AZARDI and have feedback or comments we would love to receive them.
