EPUB3 WORLD

There are a number of sites with great ePub3 books linking to the AZARDI site. We thought it would be great to reciprocate with links to various sites which have downloadable ePub3s available.

This idea popped up while browsing through sites that link into the AZARDI download site. I contacted Jay Nick at Catto Creations by email and got an enthusiastic response to the idea.

This should provide a useful resource for publishers, producers and anyone interested in knowing more about ePub3 and what is happening. So...

TADA... EPUB3 WORLD STARTS

We have started EPUB3 WORLD as an open (but controlled) resource page on the AZARDI site. That seemed the obvious place to start because many people who are interested in ePub3 land up here at sometime or other.

Why not VISIT EPUB3 WORLD RIGHT NOW. (There's one book there).

If anyone would like a link to their website sample, demo, tutorial or promotional ePub3 books just let us know and we will get them up pronto.

There is an email link on the page with some simple instructions.

If EPUB3 WORLD develops any interest and grows we will break it off as a stand-alone resource.

The Rules (there are always rules)

The rules are simple:

1. The ePubs must be valid ePub3s. No ePub2s please.
2. There must be a downloadable ePub3 at the end of the link.
3. The ePub3 books can be sample books, demos, tutorials, capability demonstrations, or even real books. Shameless self promotion is allowed and encouraged.
4. All genres are welcome. Novels, academic, textbooks, self-help, anything (but we would prefer not to have to arbitrate adult content).
5. Both reflowable and fixed layout ePub3 books are all welcome.
6. ePub3 books in any and all languages are welcome. If you provide promo text in your language we will included it on the catalog page.

Of course it is always great to see bleeding-edge demos that push ePub3 to where it should be going. Just make sure the promo text explains "this valid ePub3 will melt your processor" or whatever. AZARDI can do most HTML5/CSS-3 and Javascript tricks and has features other ePub3 reading systems have not even thought about.

And the first book is...

The first book is Catto Creations' "I Love to Doodle".  It's a great demonstration of SVG in ePub3 and it's a lot of fun. We had half-a-dozen software developers practicing their snail doodles at a development meeting. My advice is don't show I Love to Doodle it at business meetings!

Obviously all this linking stuff has visibility benefits for all parties, but it is also a focused resource. It is difficult to find good working free and demonstration ePub3 books out there at present. There are too many silly YouTube demos which don't actually
