AZARDI 29.1 has been released and can now be downloaded from the AZARDI site. It now has French internationalization and IDPF font obfuscation.
AZARDI 29 was released on the 8 May and bug fix version AZARDI 29.1 has just been released and can now be downloaded from the AZARDI site.
If you have AZARDI 27 installed it will be updated to AZARDI 29 automatically the next time it is opened. You will then be able to update to AZARDI 29.1. There is no AZARDI 28 release.
If you don't have AZARDI you can download it from the AZARDI site here ►.
It is available for Windows, MacIntosh and Linux (32 and 64 bit DEB installers).
French Internationalization has been added. Thank you Jean-Marie Schwartz, Belgium.
Font deobfuscation has been added using Adobe supplied test cases. Thank you Adobe.
Mac Installation Assistance For Mac- the AZARDI launch script has been updated to send system alert message to users if either the application.ini or xulrunner file is missing for any reason.
The full text search feature is designed to allow indexed and boolean search across all books/documents, documents in a shelf, or a user selection of documents. A book must be indexed or de-indexed by selection at upload time or after upload.
Full library full-text search indexing is not automatic as it increases e-book loading time and the index uses significant additional storage space. Also it is not particularly useful for genres such as primary and secondary text books. Great navigation and keyword discovery are generally more friendly for these user age groups.
Full text search is still in development and testing and will be released shortly. It will be available in all of the free desktop versions of AZARDI. It will also be available with AZARDI Online. There are no plans to include it on mobile versions at this stage due to performance limitations with iPad and Android devices.
The commercial versions of AZARDI will support period or date based subscriptions when the ePubs are delivered from AZARDI:Content Fulfilment sites. This includes:
Date-based subscriptions. From a specific start-date, to a specific end-date. This is primarily for content such as education and training textbooks when course/term/semester start and end dates are exact and known. The books can be downloaded any time in advance but can only be opened for reading after the start-date has passed. The books are then removed from the reading device on the end-date.
Period subscriptions. From a subscription date for an agreed period. Eg: 14 days from date of purchase. These can be applied with and without e-commerce to allow library like loans, including the number of books/documents that can be on loan at any given time.
Subscription / lending / delivery is only available for commerical AZARDI Reading Systems.
AZARDI Online now has content obfuscation as a delivery option. This gives a level of protection from theft when valuable content needs to be delivered online with reasonable security. Content viewed with developer tools see only obfuscated unreadable content.
Like DRM, obfuscation is not fool proof and is designed primarily to keep honest people honest, but it is more frustrating to unravel than an already cracked DRM key. Due to the might of HTML different nested obfuscation patterns can be applied to text at any element level and in each section. We will be posting more information about this in the future.
Javascript must be enabled to view a page that is obfuscated. Viewing in developer mode or turning Javacript off will give a content result something like this:
