IGP:Digital Publisher, Digital Content Production, Production Challenges, Quality Control

IGP:Digital Publisher 5.2 has been released. This is a new feature release addressing common e-book production challenges in digital publishing.

IGP:Digital Publisher 5.2 has been released. You can read the full feature upgrade and bugfix release notes on LEARN@IGP IGP:Digital Publisher Release 5.2.

This is a major new feature release with a number of bug-fixes.

The big feature improvements reflect the dynamic and changing nature of digital content production as business requirements for publishers of all types converge in this digital content age.

IGP:Digital Publisher is a powerful publisher content authoring, editing, production, management and format packaging solution that completely breaks with all the traditional print-oriented single-purpose tools. It introduces new levels of productivity and agility as publishing volumes increase with constant format change demands in all formal publishing sectors.

New Features in DP 5.2

Ornament Font Conversion to Image

Font to Image conversion is a significant tool for current eBook production.

The MathML to SVG or PNG feature is already included in IGP:Digital Publisher but we had requests to extend this to more types of text content.

There are a number of reasons ornaments (decorations), drop-caps and some other font-specific text should be included as images in e-Books rather than fonts. Reasons include:

  • Font licensing: No hassle or worry about font-embedding licenses.
  • Reading Systems: No fighting with reading systems that do not handle font-obfuscation or glyph reduction.
  • E-book Package Size: No e-book file-size overheads packaging fonts where only a few characters are used.
  • All E-Book Packages. This feature is useful for ePub2, ePub3, Kindle and online resources. The quality of book presentation is not reduced but

The tagging power of IGP:FoundationXHTML allows any specific class to be targeted for font to image conversion for inclusion into eBooks. When generating print PDFs the original font is still used.

Manuscript Importer Updates

Getting content into any production environment using wordprocessors or other formats can be a chore. IGP:Digital Publisher supports the importing of any publisher's custom wordprocessor manuscript styles for conversion to IGP:FoundationXHTML. This is an advanced technical feature and not for the XSL faint of heart!

Document Statistics Updates

This is a small improvement to statistics reporting. For example publishers really appreciate the ability to easily get full and correct tagging quantification when books or documents include hundreds or thousands of MathML and SVG blocks they. It is also useful when producing MathML equations on a billable basis. No-one can argue about the count!

A Backnote on IGP:Digital Publisher Release 5.1

We didn't post about IGP:Digital Publisher 5.1 released in June 2015. A significant new feature of that release was the inclusion of custom Javascript on a Section by Section basis using HTML5 data- attributes as packaging instructions.

You can read about those updates here: LEARN@IGP IGP:Digital Publisher Release 5.1. This approach makes it easy for non-specialists to package book specific interactive tools in ePubs and other formats.

Publishers who are using the power of AZARDI:Content Fulfilment for delivery of education content are now using this feature on a daily basis. While the AZARDI Interactive Engine has dozens of tools to create Q&A, Widgets and more, the need for subject specific interaction is constantly increasing.

Summary

IGP:Digital Publisher is the most advanced and complete digital content environment for all types of books and documents and all formats.

IGP:Digital Publisher has tools for all types of publishers: trade, academic, STEM, education and institutional with various tools that need to be used in sequence (Eg: TOC and List of generators, various packaging processors and a lot more).

The tools required by different publishers are very different. We are now working on a publishing mode interface that simplifies and optimizes the tools and workflow for different types of book genres.

A major objective for IGP:Digital Publisher in 2015 is automation of everything that can and should be automated for every package and format while ensuring the future value of the content is preserved.
