IGP:Digital Publisher 5.5.0 is released. This is the final release for 2015.

The details of this release can be read on the Update/Roadmap site here.

There is one major change in this release and that is a version update to the CK Editor. The buttons all have different icons folks!

CK Editor Migration

The current version of IGP:Digital Publisher (DP), uses CKEditor3.6 for the Writer interface. This version is now upgraded to the latest version i.e. CKEditor4.5.5.

The following issues will be fixed after this update activity.

  • The buttons Paste, Paste from Plain Text, or Paste from Word buttons in CKEditor were disabled in Firefox and didn't work. They now work correctly.
  • The new CK Editor icons will be used.
  • Non-breaking space applied from the flow menu inserted a regular space. This now inserts Unicode character

Other template changes and small bug-fixes can be read on the Update/Roadmap site.

2016 Is The Change Year For Digital Production

Is this a prediction? Probably. But if you are only working with trade content you will probably miss the excitment.

Digital content is changing fast. As a premier digital content production tool IGP:Digital Publisher has always been far ahead of the field. We still watch on in stunned wonder at the fights people have; with Sigil as it limps to some sort of completion; and Adobe InDesign's endless flaws; to produce e-Book formats. (Regular Expressions for HTML5 digital content production in 2015? Of course that's probably exciting if you are into retro.)

Infogrid Pacific has some seriously exciting developments for print production, digital format production AND digital content planned for delivery in 2016.

  • In the general trade and academic space our new Publisher Category Interface (PCI) will significantly increase productivity. You get just the tools you need without interface complexity. This reduces learning curves and increases throughput.
  • Typography is about to take a step up. Our fully automated system will allow the generation of multiple editions with different print designs with near perfect typesetting while you have a cup of coffee. That's the sort of productivity that can be enjoyed by every production editor.

Meanwhile on the education front the AZARDI:Learning Library continues to go from strength to strength with the multi-language internationalization and localization lessons learned in 2015.

Format packaging with IGP:Digital Publisher is already substantially ePub3.1 ready as we track the specification drafts; and JSON package delivery for WebApps is already in use. Whether it is the IDPF or W3C that introduce new digital content delivery boundaries, we are ready now. Meanwhile we continue to innovate ahead of the curve addressing challenges they have not yet identified. Interactive digital education content is best delivered directly to students on their mobile devices using AZARDI:Content Fulfilment. There is no better solution available. Download and try the desktop AZARDI Readers here.

While trade digital content fulfilment continues to be constrained by the business muscle of Amazon, Apple and Kobo their cut and paste "innovation" frameworks, there are new digital content production and distribution challenges rising around the world.IGP:Digital Publisher is the key. Ultimately it is not just what you do, but how you do it that makes the difference for the end-users in these markets.

Keep an eye our December blog posts for more information on digital content challenges you didn't even know existed that are being addressed right now; and get ready for a very exciting digital content 2016.
